Why Join CARPOOL?
Service Hours
As a member of CARPOOL, you will be required to work at least 4 nights. Each night is 6-7 hours of work. On top of that, members are required to help with different events like fundraisers and promotion. These can add up to an additional 5 hours of service hours. In total, a member works 33 service hours a semester. Over a course of 4 years CARPOOL members work 264 service hours. That’s a lot of service hours to put on a resume!
Community
CARPOOL attracts many diverse people from different majors and places. Becoming a member is a great way to meet people outside of your major with different or similar interests. Over the years, CARPOOL has been home to many small groups such as a soccer teams, mud-volley ball teams, DnD groups, and Pokémon Go groups. We also host study nights and biweekly events so that members get the chance to meet each other and get to grow closer.
Leadership Opportunities
As a member of CARPOOL, you have the chance to participate in a CARPOOL Committee. Members of CARPOOL Committees help keep us running by making decisions on important topics and by assisting in getting key sponsors and donors. You also have the opportunity to join CARPOOL’s staff, volunteer leadership positions that help keep CARPOOL running. Staff members are required to meet weekly and fulfill the duties expected of their position.
Free Food
Every night CARPOOL runs, we have a different food sponsor for members working that night. CARPOOL gets a wide range of sponsors from pizza, to chicken tenders, to Mexican cuisine. Food is only offered on work nights, not at other CARPOOL related events, so sign up for more nights for the free food!
It’s a great way to help the community and it’s great everybody knows each other and you get to be with everybody, serving the same mission and goals.
I was personally a victim of drunk driving. I had experienced that and I wanted people to not have to experience that. I’ve felt so great being a part of CARPOOL. There is a certain kind of bonding that comes with working people at 2, 3, 4 a.m. It really does feel like I am making an impact.
Since joining CARPOOL my freshman year, I’ve made a lot of friends and gained a lot of confidence. I’m better at talking to new people now and I certainly know the BCS area much better.
It is a easy and fun way to get community service hours and help your community. I joined because it gave me a fun thing to do on Friday and Saturday nights and socialize. CARPOOL has given me a social outlet with people I would likely never meet but I am happy to know them.
I joined CARPOOL to make a difference in the campus and BCS communities!
